CHESTNUTS

Together with panallets and "vi ranci",
chestnuts are the most traditional
product for the time of year around
All Saints’ Day. Chestnuts grow in
numerous Catalan forests. In the
chestnut forest of Sant Segimon, at
the foot of the Matagalls mountains,
the trees are very old; their trunks
measure more than ten metres in
diameter and have large cavities.
The best way to eat chestnuts is to
go to a "castanyada". On 1st November
there are large "castanyades" in every
village.
